Hopewell Township, NJ – The Hopewell Township Committee has taken immediate action to address concerns about turbidity in the Stony Brook. After being made aware of the issue on Wednesday, the Township Committee led by Committee Member Kuchinski promptly engaged with County officials to understand and help rectify the situation.
The turbidity was a temporary result of emergency safety repairs being conducted on a local bridge. A significant amount of clay, compatible with the local environment, was used to stabilize the bridge during the repairs. This led to the temporary discoloration of the water.
In response, County professionals and the Mercer County Soil Conservation District have developed and are currently implementing a remediation plan to remove the excess clay from the Stony Brook. The turbidity is expected to be fully resolved by the end of today.
The Township Committee and Staff is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our natural resources and County Officials are in communication with the Watershed Institute and other stakeholders.
