6/29 - An Air Quality Action day for Particulate Matter (PM2.5) has been declared for Thursday, June 29th. Levels of fine particulates will rise into the Unhealthy category due to wildfire smoke transport from eastern Canadian wildfires. Some members of the public may experience health effects, while members of sensitive groups, including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly, and the young, may experience more serious health effects. All individuals should limit strenuous activities and the amount of time active outdoors especially in the afternoon hours.
6/30 - Winds will shift out of the south on Friday morning allowing any lingering wildfire smoke in southern New Jersey to slowly lift northward. Highest PM2.5 concentrations will likely occur in the morning and afternoon hours before southeasterly winds help to provide cleaner air to the Garden State. Ozone levels are expected to rise as sunny skies, light winds, and temperatures reaching the mid-80s will provide favorable conditions for ozone to reach the upper moderate category.
