March 6, 2025, is National Slam the Scam Day. Here are some tools to help you recognize Social Security-related scams and protect yourself from scammers attempting to steal your money and personal information.
On this Slam the Scam Day, take action to protect your loved ones and your community by:
- Learning about the latest scams. Knowledge is power, and it can help you quickly identify a scam. Common signs of a scam include unexpected problems, offers of prizes, or claims of increased benefits. Be cautious of pressure to act immediately and requests for unusual payment methods, such as cryptocurrency, gift cards, gold bars, or wire transfers, even if they promise to keep your money “safe.”
- Reporting scams as soon as possible. If you have shared personal information or experienced a financial loss, don’t feel embarrassed. We all can fall victim to scams, and reporting them is an important step in combating these fraudulent activities.
