Hopewell Township’s Health Department welcomed the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) staff for an informational session about Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in drinking water on March 13th.
Attendees learned about these compounds- what they are, why they cause concern, how sampling occurs, and what resources are available if a determination is made that water is contaminated.
PFAS have been found in the Township, so it is especially important for homeowners with wells to maintain their well and test for PFAS regularly to ensure a healthy and clean drinking water supply. For detailed information about wells and proper maintenance, visit www.wellowner.org. If PFAS levels exceed the DEP’s safe standard, homeowners may be eligible to file a claim with DEP and receive assistance for treatment and further testing.
If you missed this presentation, information about PFAS, the DEP slides, discounted lab prices, and an FAQ document are now posted on our website.
