Township Police wearing specialty patches on their uniforms in support of the LGBTQ+ community

police rainbow badge and sticker

During the month of June, Pride Month, members of the Hopewell Township Police Department will be voluntarily wearing specialty patches on their uniforms in support of the LGBTQ+ community. These patches are meant as a symbol of our continued commitment to being allies to the community and the belief that all those that we serve deserve to feel safe and to be treated equally and with dignity and respect.

In addition to the patches being worn by officers, the department will also be selling patches and stickers to the general public as a fundraiser for Triad House in Ewing, NJ.  Triad House is a residential group home for juveniles and young adults who are dealing with emotional and behavioral challenges.  The group home specializes in working with individuals who identify as LGBTQ+; and it was the first openly LGBTQ+ friendly group home in the state.

It is believed that this will be the first patch of its kind to be worn by a police department in New Jersey and also the first in the country to feature the 2017 pride flag developed in Philadelphia, which includes a brown stripe and a black stripe to represent support to communities of color.

Patches will be sold for $10.00 each and stickers will be sold for $5.00, with all proceeds going to Triad House. Those interested in purchasing a patch may contact Det. Alexis Mirra to arrange for pick up at the Hopewell Township Police Department (201 Washington Crossing Pennington Road, Titusville, NJ 08560) as well as in Hopewell Borough at Dandelion Wishes (45 West Broad Street, Hopewell, NJ 08525).
