Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes has called for all Mercer County government offices to close at 12 noon today (Thursday, March 5, 2015) because of severe weather.

All branches of the Mercer County Library System, the Mercer County Board of Social Services, the Mercer County Park Commission, the Office of the Mercer County Clerk, Office of the Mercer County Surrogate, and the Mercer County administration building will close at 12 noon.

The following is a message posted by the National Weather Service:

AS OF 10:10 AM, NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR AND SURFACE REPORTS INDICATED A LARGE AREA OF HEAVIER SNOW MOVING ACROSS THE REGION.

THE SNOWFALL RATES WILL BE AN INCH PER HOUR, WHICH WILL REDUCE THE VISIBILITIES TO ONE HALF MILE OR LESS.
THE COMBINATION OF INCREASED SNOWFALL RATES AND TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING WILL CONTINUE TO RESULT IN HAZARDOUS ROAD CONDITIONS.

IF YOU MUST TRAVEL, SLOW DOWN, USE EXTRA CAUTION AND BE PREPARED FOR POOR ROAD CONDITIONS AND VISIBILITIES.

Governor Christie has declared a delayed opening of 11:00 AM for all state offices due to the impending winter storm.

Due to the impending winter storm Governor Christie has declared a State of Emergency.

**There are no travel restrictions associated with this declaration at this time.

The weather forecast remains consistent with earlier predictions.

There are areas of patchy fog throughout the state.

**There are no incidents to report in the Hopewell Valley area at this time.

According to the most current National Weather Service post, the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 PM this evening until 7 PM Thursday evening (March 5th).

Periods of rain will continue through tonight.

**There have been no major incidents due to rain today. We will provide updates on any road closures due to flooding.

Rain will change to snow tonight and snow will continue into tomorrow. The change to snow will most likely be after 10 PM.

Snow accumulations could be in the range of 4-8 inches.

Wilfred Avenue Construction Work

Wilfred Avenue is closed to through traffic while under construction but passable at all times to emergency services, school buses, garbage trucks, residents and USPS. 

 

Road Closure Announcement         Pennington Titusville Road     

The Mercer County Department of Transportation began work on Monday February 23, 2015 replacing the Pennington-Titusville Road Bridge which crosses over Jacobs Creek.

Pennington-Titusville Road between Scotch Road and Bear Tavern Road will be closed to traffic at the bridge during this construction period which is scheduled to last six months.

The eastbound detour route will be Bear Tavern Road S/B to Washington Crossing Pennington Road E/B to Scotch Road N/B.

The westbound detour will be Scotch Road S/B to Washington Crossing Pennington Road W/B to Bear Tavern Road N/B.

Motorists should plan alternate routes during this construction period.

The Zoning Office will additionally file and schedule Zoning Variance Applications with the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
