Records & Discovery

RECORDS:

The Records Bureau is responsible for the archiving of all police reports, miscellaneous documentation, accidents and firearms records.

All requests for copies of reports, including vehicle accident reports, can be made to the records clerk via telephone, or in person. Once arrangements have been made, a copy of the report will be left for pick-up at the records office or after hours at the dispatch window, which is open to the public 24 hours a day. Please bring proper identification with you to pick up records and or reports.

The most common request is a copy of vehicle accident reports. It is important to provide the clerk with a date of the accident, name and/or incident number. Hopewell Township Police handles in excess of 800 accidents per year and 25,000 calls for service, it becomes very important to provide as much data as possible to locate YOUR accident or report.

The records clerk can be contacted at 609-737-3100 Ext. 519 during normal business hours (MON-FRI 8:30AM to 4:30 PM)

DISCOVERY:

The discovery clerk is the direct link between the court and the police department in the transferring of reports to the municipal prosecutor and attorneys for the accused.

All requests for discovery must be made in writing, with proper identification or letter of representation for the accused attorney. The clerk's responsibilities are to insure reports are forwarded in a timely and complete manner to all parties involved in an incident.

The discovery clerk maintains all radar records and certifications needed to prosecute speeding summonses, as well as all proofs involving the officers training, certifications, and operations of the breathalyzer, used in DWI cases.

The discovery office is located in the Records section of the Hopewell Township Police Department. Contact can be made between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM Monday thru Friday at 609-737-3100 Ext. 525.
