Detective Bureau Hopewell Township Detective Bureau is responsible for performing follow-up investigations, as well as the prevention and detection of crime. The Detective Bureau handles investigation related to all crimes committed within the township and Hopewell Borough. The bureau investigates crimes including but not limited to homicide, burglary, theft, narcotics, juvenile and computer crimes. Detectives also conduct background investigations for licensing, permits, firearms and employment screening related to public safety. Three full-time detectives staff the Bureau. Personnel currently assigned to the Detective Bureau and their extensions are listed below: BUREAU COMMANDER: Bureau commander assigns cases, reviews reports and oversees all investigations conducted by the Detective Bureau. The bureau commander has the additional responsibilities of conducting internal investigations, random drug testing of officers, recruiting, acting as the liaison between the police department and the Domestic Violence Victim Response Team (DVVRT) and supervising the Records/Discovery section. DETECTIVES: Detective(s) responsibilities include follow-up investigations; surveillance, interrogation; evidence collection, evidence management, residential identification cards and firearms purchaser ID card investigations. Detective(s) are often assigned to assist the Traffic Division on investigations involving fatal motor vehicle accidents. JUVENILE DETECTIVE: Juvenile detective investigates and processes all juvenile matters handled by the police department. Typically, these cases initially begin with uniform officers from the patrol division; they are turned over to juvenile for follow-up. Juvenile detective(s) work closely with the NJ Division of Youth and Family Services and the Mercer County Prosecutors Office on investigations involving mistreatment and neglect of children. The juvenile detective also serves as resource officer in the Junior & high school. The MEGAN’s Law registry is maintained by the juvenile detective(s).
