Mission Statement
"Healthy People in a Healthy Community"
To assure all valley residents a safe community and healthy environment
to
raise their families through Public Health based environmental
health
regulation and personal health services which meet the needs of
all members
of the community and to promote healthy lifestyles through preventive
education initiatives.
Long Range Goals
Implementation and compliance with the public health practice
standards ten (10) essential public health functions.
These include the following:
Monitor health
status to identify community health problems

Diagnose
and investigate health problems in the community

Inform, educated
and empower people regarding health
issues

Mobilize
community partnerships to identify and solve health problems

Develop policies
and plans which support individual and
community health efforts

Enforce the
laws and regulations that protect health and
ensure safety

Link people
to needed personal health services and assure
health care when it is otherwise unavailable

Ensure a
competent local public health system and assure a
competent personal health care workforce

Evaluate
the effectiveness, accessibility and quality of
personal and population based health services

Research
for innovative solutions to health problems
This will be accomplished through a collaborative process
with the County and other health departments and health
services agencies in the greater Mercer area.
Short Range goals
1. Develop community partnerships with Key agencies
and organizations.
2. Review the APEX Organizational capacities report
and develop a plan to meet the deficiencies noted in
the outcome report.
3. Start work on MAPP at a local level and County level.
4. Continue working towards a computerized data information
system for well and septic information.
5. Encourage the township committee move forward with
adopting a wastewater management district as recommended
in the Master plan.
6. To plan for its implementation, including the hiring
of staff.
7. Continue to work with property owners on septic and
well issues when as part of the recently enacted sale,
rental and change of use ordinance.
8. Reintroduce the oil tank ordinance after rewriting
the sections found to be confusing by the court.
