Township residents wishing to apply for a State of New Jersey firearms identification card, permit to purchase a hand gun, amend an existing State of New Jersey firearms identification card, voluntarily register a firearm, or apply for a permit to carry a firearm may do so at the Hopewell Township Police Department, 201 Washington Crossing Pennington Road, in Titusville, New Jersey.
Applications may be picked up at the police department or completed and downloaded from the New Jersey State Police website*****.

SBI 212A Request for Criminal History Record Information for a Non Criminal Justice Purpose : Not available on the N.J.S.P web site.
Applications are accepted every Tuesday between the hours of 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. Please call in advance to assure a detective is available. Applications will not be accepted by dispatchers.
If the package is not
complete, it will not be accepted. Any false statement will cause the
application to be immediately rejected and the applicant may be charged
criminally.

All application fees are non refundable. Fees for the New Jersey State Police MUST be in the form of certified checks or money orders -
NO PERSONAL CHECKS.
Q. What is required to obtain a firearms identification card and/or a permit to purchase a weapon?
A. 1. The completed application (STS-033) must be completed for either the firearms ID card, and/or, the permit to purchase a handgun. All questions must be answered truthfully.
2. The unsigned mental health records search form (SPS-66).
3. Two (2) reference questionnaires (To be completed by Non Family Members).
4. All required fees. The fees for fingerprinting and SBI 212A require a money order or certified check. The fees for Firearms ID cards and permits to purchase may be paid with cash, personal check, certified check and/or money order.
Q. If I have the firearms identification card with an S.B.I number already assigned, do I have to complete form STS – 0033 and spend $54.00 dollars again?
A. No. If you need replace your firearms identification card, form 212A (with the $18.00 money order or certified check) and Form STS-3 must be completed.
Q. Every time I apply for a permit to purchase a handgun, do I use the same form (STS-033) as I did for the initial application?
A. Yes. Every time a permit to purchase a weapon is requested, form STS-033 and SBI 212A must be completed. The $54.00 fee does not apply because new fingerprints are not being submitted. The required fees are $2.00 per permit (cash, personal check, or money order) and $18.00
for form SBI 212A (money order or certified check).
Q. Do I need a firearms identification card to buy a handgun?
A. Yes, as well as a permit to purchase a handgun.
Q. Do I need a permit to purchase a long gun?
A. No, just the firearms identification card.
Q. If I already have the firearms identification card, may I apply for a permit to purchase a handgun?
A. Yes. However, form STS-033 and Form 212A must be completed and presented with the required fees.
Q. How long does the initial application take?
A. From the time the application (form STS-033) is completed and the fingerprints submitted, expect the process to take approximately four (4) to six (6) weeks. When the identification card is completed you will be contacted. Please do not call to “check up” on the progress of the application.
Q. How long does it take to get a permit?
A. If the applicant is going through the initial process (STS-033), four (4) to six (6) weeks. If the applicant already has the firearms identification card, approximately two (2) to four (4) weeks after the submission of Form 212A and Form STS-033.
